Colleen Patrick and business partner Gary Allen Tucci established Heart Break Productionz in 2008 to create quality independent feature films, for which she is writer, director and co-producer; Gary is HBPz' executive producer. Working with them is Indie phenom producer Larry Estes. They are currently producing their first feature, THE WHOLE TRUTH, a screwball comedy .. with a twist. Three more features are currently in development:
Here's how all this came about: An Air Force brat, Colleen moved 17 times by the time she was 17. The one thing that kept her sane and prepared her for her future was writing. Not just personal writing, but writing for school newspapers; she was chosen editor for one junior high school newspaper because of her experience, even though she was a new kid at the school. She then started her professional journalism career at the age of 18 in the US Air Force, where she worked as a newspaper reporter, then editor, photographer, radio and television work as well as performing PR duties as part of President Kennedy's "Cape Cod White House" press staff at Otis AFB, Massachusetts. During her four-year enlistment, she also toured as a singer with the US Air Force Band and won a couple beauty pageants. She then attended the University of Central Washington for an academic year, where she won a national writing award for a daily radio comedy series Little Fannie Frosh and was the news writer and anchor of the nightly news for the campus radio station. From there she briefly studied at the University of Washington, leaving to become a full time television and radio news reporter for KIRO-TV/AM (CBS) in Seattle shortly after her 23rd birthday. She went on to have a distinguished career in journalism in radio, television and newspapers - doing such varied jobs as investigative reporter, anchor, talk show host, columnist, commentator, news director, media analyst and ombudsman/reader advocate. Her work appeared on CBS, NBC, the Associated Press and CNN. During this time, she also managed to perform in plays, do stand-up comedy, be an auctioneer to raise money for good causes and charities, help at risk kids learn media skills, sing professionally, have several magazine articles published, graduate from the University of Washington (communications and sociology major) and begin to write screenplays. Throughout her media work, she also coached individuals and groups whose stories were underrepresented, misrepresented or ignored by mass media how to tell their stories effectively, including teaching them camera skills.
Over the years Colleen has taught media analysis, screenwriting and film directing courses at the University of Washington, several Washington State Community Colleges and the Experimental College of the University of Washington. She has been a guest on several television and radio talk shows - national and local - discussing her books and analyzing media coverage of important stories. She also coached people appearing on Oprah, the Today Show, Good Morning America and other national and local television and radio talk shows so they could make the most of their appearances - and possibly even get a return engagement! A rumor in her own time, she was asked by actors who knew she was coaching people how to perform effectively for the camera to train them as well. The Seattle Actor's Lab hired her to teach a camera acting class. When the Lab closed, she taught camera acting classes privately for several years before becoming an acting coach for individual professional actors as well as those desiring to create careers as film and television actors. During this time she produced, wrote and directed somewhere between 16 and 20 short films, often using the actors she coached, as well as writing and directing theater work and directing work written by other writers. One of her short films, Life As Art, was featured at the Seattle International Film Festival, shown with the Swedish classic The Apple War at a local theater, shown at festivals and screenings around the world and an official Academy Award submission. She won first place awards for industrial films she made for non-profit organizations to empower their viewers, as well as awards for writing and directing narrative scripts and short films. Colleen is a breast cancer survivor - undergoing chemotherapy and radiation for nearly 18 months, she has been cancer-free for more than three years! A columnist ("Screenwriter's Café") for ScreenTalk international screenwriting magazine(based in Denmark) for five years, she wrote what screenwriter John Michael Hayes (Rear Window, To Catch a Thief, The Man Who Knew Too Much) considers the best article he's read explaining the feud between him and Alfred Hitchcock. Several of her columns are included in this website. That slick magazine morphed into what is now movieScope international filmmaking magazine, based in London, covering producing, directing, acting and writing. Colleen - "CP" to her friends and colleagues - is the magazine's camera acting columnist, interviewing the finest camera acting artists of our time. Editor Eric Lilleor calls her the best writer on the subject he has found in the world. She became a full time feature writer/director/producer when she and Gary created Heart Break Productionz. She calls theirs the "perfect partnership" - built on respect, honesty, trust and follow through. For each of them, "A deal is a deal. No surprises." Says CP, "It may be one heck of a lot of work - but it's just as much fun. I'm having the time of my life. Collaboration is the name of the game and I love playing it."
Congratulations, Samantha Morton!

Jack Davenport, one of the world's most employed actors in every genre, was a hoot and holler. Known to most as Keira Knightley's romantic failed pursuer in the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, his self-deprecating sense of humour (he's British, you know) mixes with tough, honest talk about what it takes to succeed as an actor in films. I love people who take themselves lightly, but are dead serious about their work.
My interview with sensational person and unbelievably talented and skilled performer Samantha Morton for movieScope magazine was a revelation. I absolutely adore her awareness, honesty and integrity - which humbled this interviewer because there's no such thing as an ordinary answer from this artist!
I interviewed the remarkable David Morse, one of the finest American actors of our time. What an insightful, thoughtful, generous, down to earth and caring man he is, as well as a dedicated and sensational artist. It was a privilege to spend time with him discussing the craft and the business.
It was a memorable experience interviewing CCH Pounder for movieScope magazine! She is da bomb(!) as an actor and person!
Interviewing Alec Baldwin for movieScope for its maiden edition was a thrill. He's an extraordinary talent and individual. What a treat for movieScope readers as well! The interview is now online at movieScope's website. If you'd like to read it, click here.
